Quotes over the ages
S5:
Science is an ongoing process. It never ends. There is no single ultimate truth to be achieved, after which scientists can retire. And because this is so, the world is far more interesting, both for scientists and for millions of people in every nation who, while not professional scientists, are deeply interested in the methods and findings of science.
- Cosmos, Carl Sagan
S5-S6, Still one of my favourite quotes:
It's so easy to run to others. It's hard to stand on one's on record. You can't fake virtue in your own eyes. Your ego is the strictest judge. It's simple to seek substitutes for competence - love, kindness... But there isn't substitute for competence. That precisely is the deadliness of second handers.
- The Fountainhead, Ayn Rand
S6-S7, Very meaningful at that time:
My past life seemed floated away to an immeasurable distance, the present was vague and strange, and for the future I could form no conjecture.
- Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte. ( The irony is that I never completed that book)
S7-S8:
I yearn to define my life
Placing faith in chance to meet me in halfway
Back row to the left, a little to the side,
Slightly out of place
Look beyond the light, where you least expect
There's someone special.
- From the song Someone Special, Poets of the Fall

half an hour at home prioritizing the day's stuff to be completed,
then back to college,
reading ebooks and papers at CCF upto 8:30pm,
come back home lazily,
and flip through pages of texts for deciding pages to be at Copy Park the next day and sleep...
the cycle continues...
i wonder how it'll be like once i start working?????
and as i was mentioning to a few, i have loosened up a lot in these 3.5yrs.. and i'd really like to put in a lot of effort to be lazy for the next few months atleast... with God's grace i've been able to do anything i set myself on through dedicated work,... i wonder how much work i have to put in to be lazy, to not attend classes, to stop visiting the library, to start watching a lot-lot of movies, ah.. the list is endless....

how long can you remain idle?
Three weeks ago we were working on something without a body, without a mind, trying to make the future. Our minds and body were bent on making it work. The robots were made. The battle half won. Who cares about the rest half. Anyway that is past and back to future. I keep haing an obsession of jumping from past to future when the thing that matters most is the present. But present is just a moment while the past and future are immeasurable.
So back to past or the recent past to be exact. What's keeping me busy these days? Nothing. So what's the problem? nothing. No i din't mean there's no problem. Nothing is the problem. You laugh at it, you sleep over it, you wake up and look around at and still don't see. You realize that the nothingness or the lack of anything is nothing if you consider the something days in the past when you had everthing and wanted to have nothing. Those something days.. when you always had something or someone in mind, when pen was mightier than 12 hours of sleep, 8 hours of looking blankly at the computer screen and 4 hours of trying to count the hours in a day.
Since when have you been a workaholic? You'd pride yourself in being the lazy kid. But even while being lazy you'd always tried to keep the brain moving. If it doesn't move, you feel congested, feels like..dead. So wake up buddy. Wake up and see the world.
Who am I talking to?
ah.. Hi John, what's been keeping you busy these days?

My life in multicoloured shoes
The situation isn't hard to explain but might be hard to understand for someone else. First of all, I've always been this spoilt child type. Might be 'coz I'm the younger one, but I always had responsibilities thrown over to others. Chachan did majority of the outside work and Amma handled everything inside. Things are right on the balance when I'm left back here with apparently nothing to do. The only chore I was reminded to do was paying the phone bill. Rest would go on like clockwork. But into the first week, I'm starting to realize I'm mistaken.
Elders have a full blown social life. We, on the other hand usually contend ourselves with small talk. I, being the supposed information bug for the family, am entrusted the responsibility to gather information from social spheres like church, native place etc. Also, all info that's to be passed on to the respective spheres has to pass through me. More and more I find out that the things I've to do to keep myself alive is much easier than things I'm supposed to do. Among these, I've to split into another frame too - try belonging to hostel, where I know I wont be staying more than 2 months while hanging out with the usual gang outside the hostel.
I'm talkative among friends and pretty silent at other occasions. I'm hoping this experience would teach me something - to talk to people. As of now, it's truly a labyrinth... just some passion missing. ;-) If someone could provide it, the labyrinth of passion would be complete.

Bluntly put, see that your mother does not ruin your marriage. |

Cancer Health: Cancer has stomach and the chest as its positive health zones. Overweight is a typical Cancerian problem. (he has to see me... :-) )

Cancer Food: Favored food for Cancerians would be all fruits and vegetables with a very high water content such as cucumbers, pumpkins, cabbage, turnip, lettuce, mushrooms etc. Drink plenty of water. Avoid Pastries and Cakes. A fish diet is recommended. (i really hate fish)
Cancer Habits: Cancerians have a tendency to get into the groove, hence you are a slave of habits. (really??)
Born between July 2 and July 11 If the person is born between these days, the planetary ruler is Mars. Mars stands for force, vigor, energy, power and vitality. Hence the stronger qualities of Cancer would be exhibited. Avoid the dictatorial stance. The fourth sign in the Rashichakra, Karka ( Cancer ) love their home - their roots. Falling in the fourth house of the Kaalpurusha (Ursha Major), which denotes mother, Karka ( Cancer ) plays the same role. Farther the governing planet of the Rashi is Chandra (Moon), which rules over themind and denotes mother. This too enhances its role as mother The most empathetic zodiac sign, Karkas ( Cancer ) are often overly sensitive. They take great pleasure in the comforts of home and family and are at their best when all is peaceful at this front. They nurture a maternal instinct, are domestic and love to nurture others. They adore large families, always providing for others, protecting and making a nest wherever they go. Karkas ( Cancer ) are traditional and prize family history and love communal activities. They also tend to be patriotic, waving the flag, whenever possible. Karkas ( Cancer ) are more concerned with expressing emotions than on superficial conversations. They can appear to be moody, shy and too much like a baby. But on the contrary they are not shy, but protecting themselves against emotional exposure. Though very artistic and creative, often they get on the nerves for holding on to everything including wealth and even to every word that was ever said to them. Their mood swings are unpredictable -- sweet to cranky. The proverbial crab, they retreat into their shells, when hurt. Extremely introvert and certainly not the easiest person to understand these crabs can hide emotions well beneath the tough exterior. Although kind and affable till the mood is stable, it is bitter and melancholic at the next, often feeling hurt unnecessarily. Trying to draw sympathy, Crabs can be fairly insensitive towards others, snapping, being rude and short-tempered. However, the seemingly rude behavior is only a clever means to hide their own insecurities and complexes -- almost like timid, hurt children. Karkas ( Cancer ) can be admirably kind, generous, understanding, charitable and gracious, if all is well with them. Karkas ( Cancer ) can be seen standing by people in their time of need. Their good intuitive powers mostly put to good use in managing their own lives. (is this true guys?) Urges to travel to distant lands come but quelled since home is where you love to dwell. Most often crabs hurt the ones most who have been good for them.(i really cant help this fact). They also tend to make a mountain out of the molehill and are prone to self-pity. Slightly untidy, this doesn't endear you to more stable signs. Unlike Dhanu, who have a place for everything, the Karkas ( Cancer ) idea is to put it somewhere, under the bed, in cupboards, anywhere -- not that you are not untidy -- you are the original hoarder. Karkas ( Cancer ) don't ask for much either, a comfortable home and sense of peace is what is most important. Crabs are also quick to help others and tend to avoid confrontation. In keeping with their nurturing bent, those born under this Sign enjoy their food. A hearty picnic in the park is heaven on earth to most crabs. Karkas ( Cancer ) have a keen intellect and are good with their hands. They do well as painters, sculptors sales persons. However you are best when it comes to taking writing as a full-time profession. Most crabs will have reasonably good careers(i'm still not sure), although there will be a tendency to change to an entirely different field midway, say somewhat nearing 35 years(what the heck.. this ought to be true!!!!) . Money and material wealth are fairly important to and although nearly miserly with the money you earn, sudden windfalls and gains are often squandered away thoughtlessly. Crabs romance those who are quite opposite to them in nature(never tried it...). They are strongly attracted to people who are confident, strong and successful. Although they fall in love all the time, their introvert nature and uneasiness in disclosing their true feelings makes many of these affairs one-sided. (eh... no comments...) they are not likely to rush headlong into marriage, because in selecting a life partner, they are often governed by your their. Karkas ( Cancer ), Vrischika ( Scorpio ) and Meen ( Pisces ) will make good partners for Karkas ( Cancer ). (cancer,s corpio, pisces ... hmm... very few choices....anyone out there? ;-) duh... just joking....) why did they forget my lucky number?? :-) |

I'm still jobless.. Hurray!
There's a question that's being thrown around a lot these days - Are you ready for a job? After the question is asked rhetorically by someone, everyone goes silent at the same time. Though most of us recover fast, the feeling of uncertainty doesn't wane away. So what makes the question so potent? There seems to be many reasons.
First of all, though we say education is a continuous process, is it really true. I feel the knowledge gathering process grind to a halt after you enter a job. The second is freedom or at least the illusion of freedom. The freedom of movement, thought and expression will be curtailed. Another is the simple fact of higher responsibility.
Humans work an average 8 of the 16 hours we're awake. That adds up to about half of your life spend to survive in the other half. Was it like that always, or did industrial revolution blind us?
Simpsons Quote of the Day:
Mr. Burns: I’ll keep it short and sweet - Family. Religion. Friendship. These are the three demons you must slay if you wish to succeed in business.

KyUn EXAMS Fail hUa..
Firstly the maths exams was unexpectedly easy. There ended the 'Happy Days'. The buoyant faces around the campus didn't have a clue what the KU had in store for them in the coming days. I don't wanna relive the experience of the following exams, but those lead to a revelation.
What exactly is the KU trying to do proving all the odds wrong? Why are the questions so unpredictable, which might even be foolishly easy only if we'd studied it. But why didn't we study them? The answer is often simple-they are the most unimportant parts in the whole subject or as it happened in the last exam, we got a whole text wrong.
Little more about the last exam, and I'll continue along the previous line of thought later. Well, the teacher taught us something in a language we couldn't understand. The words written on board were hieroglyphics and to top it all, we were given a excellent book that's extremely hard to decipher. But something about the subject drove us hard into interpreting the whole book (special mention to divertido). Maybe it was the joy of learning, the joy of using our brains properly after a long time. The previous night we even sympathized our teacher with poor communication skills. One minute into the exam changed it all. People referring that exam paper next year would say "It was easy.". They'd never know what went through our mind on seeing questions that didn't even dare to touch the essence of the subject which drained the complete processing power of quad-core brains.
Back to the question of why KU is doing this, I've a possible plausible answer. They playing the lame game that a boy does to impress his girlfriend. Make unpredictable situations and conversations that tries to convince the foolish girlfriend to falsely believe that the boy is naturally great. This artificiality shines through every one of the question papers. That concerted effort to make exam papers that question not the intelligence of each student, but their foolishness. Every question seems to ask the same thing - how foolish of you to leave the simple things and study the hardest parts. KU has been so blinded by the feeling that unpredictable questions bring out the intelligence in someone. They do not realize that it's not unpredictability that checks a students intelligence. A question paper based on the application of what's taught in books, even if the application needs to be derived right then and there, is acceptable by me. I hope that at least in the future the KU realizes that only higher grade application based question papers improve the standard of the university.

Bye bye '07
Years go by and we move ahead to a better tomorrow. It's time to think back on how the year had been, how much we've learned, how much unlearned. How many mistakes made and discover the fun of making mistakes. It's a year that taught us above all, the joy of being together, doing things we never dreamt we'd do. It's been a year of loss and so much gain. How much I wish KU had enough sense not to spoil our New year bash. KU's KU and there's no use blaming the system now.
Looking ahead to a new year is interesting too. There are so many resolutions to prove wrong. So many days you'd be left wondering is this life? and other days thinking this is life! This blog had been one of the best things happening in '07. It gave a reason to think, imagine and give words to imagination. Thanks to all the bloggers. Hope many more will jot down brain waves and open hearts next year. Wish you all a Happy and Prosperous New Year!
